Why did the chicken cross the road?

I had a great lunch out at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants with Lisa. I LOVE to do lunch. I think I could eat out every meal! I had the Mongolian beef. I love spending time with friends. I love nurturing the relationships I have. I never used to be very good at that. The older I get, the more I appreciate the girlfriends I have. There are so many women out there that would benefit from having some gal pals to hang with.

I have a new, beautiful dent on the hood of my car. It really bothers me. I hit a chicken!! A stupid chicken!!! Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to heaven faster!!! I couldn't believe it. I even slowed down because I had a bad feeling when I saw it cross the road and then turn around to head back. Stupid, stupid birds!!! This was the first time I have killed something on the highway. I always see dead animals on the side of the road. When I first moved here, it really bothered me. I have grown used to it now. Sad. Except for the chickens. They are idiots!

That so reminds me of a funny memory I have of the time Charlotte and I were nannies back east. Even now, it makes me laugh, but it's probably one of those things where "you had to be there..." but I'll share it anyway.

We were driving to some town in New Jersey to see one of Charlotte's cousins who was serving a mission there at the time. (My memory is increasingly fuzzy these days, so Charlotte may have to correct the details) I think I was the one driving, and we were on this crazy 2 lane freeway zipping along at like 60 miles an hour (I forget the number of the road , but it ranked in like the top 5 deadly highways in the U.S., so we were already a bit tense, driving the employeers car on such a crazy busy road, wondering where in the heck we were going and hoping to not get lost etc...) Anyway - were're driving along and this bird (a big ole bird) flys right into the windshield - hard enough that we are certain it met it's demise. I'm sitting there freaking out that I just killed a bird and in my moment of crisis, Charlotte looks over at me and says so calmly, "Jeri, You did not kill the bird. The bird committed suicide."
I just started laughing so hard, and I'm sitting here laughing now, even I as I think back.

Sorry about the dent in your car and that you are surrounded by suicidal chicken, but thanks for the trip down memory lane...

I remember that day! It was Tommy's Maxima that we were driving, and it was a very stressful, but I do remember thinking very distinctly that it wasn't OUR fault that the bird had died. Suicide. Definitely suicide.

I almost hit a cat Sunday night on my way home from Eric's. Luckily I slammed on the brakes in time. Birds are one thing, but cats are another. Cats can't fly into your windshield, which makes "running into a car" a less effective suicide method (in my opinion)

hi, it's me! melissa c said...

I like that. Suicide. That is definately what it was! Stupid, stupid chickens!

"WE HAD A DEAL!"

This ost makes me crack up mainly because I am famous in the family for animal, especially bird "suisides". I have had them literally drop out of the sky, you can see them coming and WHAM! right into the windsheild. The first time this happened I totally freaked and turned the windshield wipers on to try and swoosh it off the windshield. The wing got stuck under the blade and the dead bird just went shwiiiish shwiiiish back and forth ...lovely.

I have a gynormous dent in the hood of my minivan from an owl that decided he wanted to off himself in the middle of the desert, that was SCARY, stupid thing was freaking huge!

I could go on and on.

Lunch was good, and I LOVED my chicken dish.
